How To Read the Alphabet Chart
A dot is a short signal and a dash is a signal three times longer. For example, the letter A is dot dash, and the letter N is dash dot. Notice that the most common letters in English, such as E and T, have the shortest patterns. That was a deliberate design choice to make everyday messages faster to send.
Easy Ways To Memorise Morse Code Letters
- Learn by sound, not by sight. Say dit for a dot and dah for a dash out loud.
- Group letters by shape. E is one dot, I is two, S is three, H is four.
- Use the translator to play short words and copy the rhythm back.
- Practise a few letters a day rather than the whole chart at once.
